Do you ever wonder what a Prosthodontist or Restorative Dentist is, or what kind of dentistry he or she practices? If so, you're not alone. Even though many people have had their mouths restored with implants, bridges or dentures, or have had their teeth crowned or veneered, they never think it's all called "prosthodontics". That's not surprising because it's the kind of service we all expect from dentistry. However, the difference is that some dentists specialize in this treatment, and these specialists are called Prosthodontists or Restorative Dentists. To be able to use the term “Prosthodontist” or “Restorative Dentist” a dentist must have undertaken extensive additional training (currently 3 years) and be registered in one of these specialities with the Dental Council of New Zealand.
The New Zealand Association of Prosthodontists and Restorative Dentists was established to promote the study and clinical advancement of prosthodontics and maintain the high ethical and professional standards in our speciality.
